Quick answer

Claude connects to Google Calendar through Anthropic's built-in Google Workspace connector. Go to Customize, then Connectors, pick Google, and sign in. Claude can then view your events (including shared calendars), create, update and delete events, find mutual availability, manage attendees, respond to invitations and set up recurring meetings. By default it asks your approval before each action. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner must enable the connector first.

What the Claude Google Calendar connector can do

Anthropic's Google Workspace connectors help page lists the calendar capabilities. In plain terms, Claude can:

  • Read your schedule, including shared calendars your account can access.
  • Create, update and delete events, with details like title, time and description.
  • Find mutual availability across the people you want to meet.
  • Manage attendees and respond to invitations: accept, decline or tentative.
  • Set up recurring meetings.

That is a full read and write integration, a real change from the early version. Anthropic's older article on the Gmail and Calendar integrations described a more limited, read-focused feature on paid plans. If you read about Claude's calendar support in 2025, the current page is the one to trust.

The approval model is worth understanding. According to the same help page, Claude asks for your explicit approval before each action it takes on your behalf by default. On Team and Enterprise plans, owners can decide whether members may let certain actions run without a prompt each time. For a calendar, the default is sensible: you see "Create event: Dentist, Tuesday 9:00" and click to confirm, which catches the occasional misread date.

How to turn on the Claude Google Calendar integration

The help page gives the path. Menus get renamed now and then, so if a label differs slightly, look for the same idea.

  • Step 1: Open the connectors settings. In Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors.
  • Step 2: Choose the Google connector and authenticate with the Google account that holds your calendar.
  • Step 3: Turn it on for a chat. In a conversation, click the plus button, hover over Connectors and toggle Google Calendar on or off.
  • Step 4 (Team and Enterprise only): ask an Owner. An Owner or Primary Owner must enable Google Workspace connectors for the organization before members can connect.

Anthropic says the connector is available to all users on Claude and Claude Desktop. Usage limits still depend on your plan.

Prompts that work well

Claude handles natural sentences well, the same idea we cover in our explainer on natural language scheduling. Being specific about dates and calendars saves a round of clarification. A few that tend to work:

  • "Look at my calendar for next week and list every day where I have less than an hour free between 9 and 6."
  • "Find a 45-minute slot on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon when both Priya and I are free, and draft an invite called Budget review."
  • "Move my Friday 4pm call to Monday at the same time and keep the attendees."
  • "I'm traveling to Lisbon from the 12th to the 15th. Which meetings on my calendar fall during that trip?"
  • "Decline the Thursday offsite planning invite and add a note that I'll send comments by email."

Claude is also good at the part around the calendar: turning a messy email thread into a proposed agenda, or reading a conference schedule pasted into the chat and creating only the sessions you care about. That combination of reasoning and calendar access is the real reason to use a general assistant for scheduling.

Or skip the setup

The developer route: MCP

There is a second way to connect Claude to a calendar, aimed at developers. Claude supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI applications to tools and data. Anthropic's own Google connector is the simple path for most people. MCP is for cases the built-in connector does not cover: a self-hosted calendar server, a custom tool that applies your own rules before creating an event, or calendar access inside a coding agent.

The tradeoff is ownership. With a community or self-built MCP server, you set up the Google Cloud OAuth credentials yourself, you decide which scopes to grant, and you are responsible for keeping that code safe. If you just want Claude to see your schedule, use the official connector.

Claude Google Calendar connector not working?

Anthropic's help page lists the main fixes:

  • Reconnect. Go to Customize, then Connectors, open the Google connector, choose Disconnect, confirm, and authenticate again the next time you use it.
  • Clear the old connection. If problems persist, remove Claude from your Google Account's third-party connections and reconnect from scratch.
  • "Access blocked" on a work account. A Google Workspace administrator may need to mark Claude as trusted in the Admin console (Security, Access and data control, API controls, Manage third-party app access). Anthropic notes the change can take about 15 minutes to apply.
  • Not available on Team or Enterprise. The organization Owner has not enabled Google Workspace connectors, or has disabled them in organization settings.
  • Slow or partial answers. Complex questions can take several calendar lookups, and rate limits follow Google's API quotas. Narrowing the date range helps.

One more habit: if Claude answers a calendar question suspiciously fast and vaguely, check that the connector is toggled on for that chat. Without it, Claude can only reason about what you have typed.

The limits worth knowing

Claude with the calendar connector is a capable scheduling partner, but it shares the shape of every general chat assistant.

It is reactive. Claude acts when you start a conversation. It does not send you a heads-up before a flight or a nudge when a meeting moves. If you want proactive help, you need something that runs on its own schedule.

It lives where you chat. For many people that is a laptop: Claude Desktop or the web. On a phone, opening a general assistant, enabling a connector and typing a request is more steps than a quick calendar change deserves.

Approvals add a tap. Asking before each action is the right default, but it means every change is a two-step exchange. Good for safety, slower for "push my 3pm by half an hour."

It is one tool among many. The same chat that drafts your emails and debugs your code now also holds your dentist appointment. Some people love that. Others prefer to keep the calendar in its own place.

None of this is a criticism of Claude. It is the difference between an assistant that can do almost anything and a tool designed around one job. Our comparison of Google Calendar's native features and AI assistants goes deeper into that split, and if you are choosing between Anthropic and OpenAI, see our guide to ChatGPT and Google Calendar.

How Daychat helps

Daychat takes the same idea, talking to your calendar in plain language, and makes it the whole app. It runs on iPhone and iPad (and on Mac), works with Google Calendar, and lets you create, move, edit or cancel events by typing a sentence. Ask "am I free Thursday afternoon?" and it checks every calendar in your Google account, shared ones included. Each day opens a fresh chat, so the conversation stays about today.

Where it differs from a general assistant is the proactive side: a daily summary of your day, alerts timed to the kind of event, and birthday reminders from your iPhone contacts, all free. Daychat+ adds voice notes, rain and snow alerts about an hour ahead, and official weather warnings. We never sell your data or use it to train AI models. If you like asking Claude about your schedule but want that experience in your pocket, download Daychat on the App Store.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Claude Google Calendar integration free?

Anthropic says the Google connector is available to all users on Claude and Claude Desktop. Your plan still determines how much you can use Claude overall, and on Team and Enterprise an Owner must enable the connector.

Can Claude create recurring events in Google Calendar?

Yes. Anthropic's help page lists setting up recurring meetings among the connector's capabilities, along with creating, updating and deleting events.

Does Claude change my calendar without asking?

Not by default. Claude asks for your approval before each action. On Team and Enterprise plans, owners can allow some actions to run without a prompt.

Do I need MCP to use Google Calendar with Claude?

No. The built-in connector covers most needs. MCP is for developers who want a custom or self-hosted integration and are comfortable managing their own Google credentials.

Why does Google say access is blocked when I connect Claude?

Your organization's Google Workspace admin restricts third-party apps. They can mark Claude as trusted in the Admin console; the change can take about 15 minutes to apply.
