Quick answer

Gemini can create, find, edit and cancel Google Calendar events from the Gemini app, including on shared and secondary calendars since January 2026. Inside Gmail and Calendar, "Help me schedule" and Gemini suggested times find meeting slots for you, mostly on paid Workspace or Google AI plans. Gemini still cannot add guests from the app, and it does not message you first: it acts when you ask.

Where Gemini actually lives in Google Calendar

"Gemini in Google Calendar" is not one feature. It is a handful of features spread across four surfaces, and they arrived at different times for different accounts. Knowing which surface you are in explains most of the confusion people run into.

  • The Gemini app (web, Android, iPhone): a chat where you ask for calendar actions in plain language.
  • Gmail: "Help me schedule" and the Gemini side panel can propose times and create events from an email thread.
  • Google Calendar itself: Gemini powers suggested meeting times when you schedule with colleagues.
  • Any Workspace app: since September 2026, eligible business accounts can schedule from Docs, Sheets or Gmail without opening Calendar.

If you only remember one thing, remember this: the Gemini app is the general-purpose route, and the Workspace features are mostly built for scheduling meetings with other people.

What the Gemini app can do with your calendar

According to Google's Gemini help page for Calendar, the Gemini app can create events, find events, edit them and cancel them. You type or say something like "move my dentist appointment to Friday at 3pm" and Gemini proposes the change.

Two updates matter in 2026:

  • Shared and secondary calendars. Until early 2026 the app only worked on your primary calendar. In January 2026 Google extended it, so Gemini now searches all your calendars by default and can edit or delete events on any calendar where you have edit access (9to5Google, January 29, 2026).
  • Still no guests. The same report notes that adding guests to an event is not supported from the Gemini app. You create the event, then invite people from Google Calendar.

Google's help page also lists limits on editing some event details, such as location or description, so check the event after a complex edit. For simple changes (time, date, title, cancel) the app works well, and it is free with a personal Google account.

On iPhone, Google has rolled out Calendar access to Gemini Live, its voice mode, on both Android and iOS (9to5Google, August 2025). Feature parity between Android and iPhone has shifted several times, so if an action is missing on iPhone, try the same request on the web version of Gemini.

Help me schedule and suggested times

These are the features people usually mean when they search for a Gemini Google Calendar integration at work.

Help me schedule in Gmail. When an email thread is about finding a time, Gemini reads your calendar and offers open slots you can drop into the reply. Google launched it in October 2025 for one-on-one meetings, on Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise plans, and Google AI Pro and Ultra (Workspace Updates, October 2025). In March 2026 it expanded to group meetings, including external guests (Workspace Updates, March 2026).

Suggested times in Calendar. When you create a meeting with colleagues, Gemini now checks their availability, time zones and conflicts, and can show a banner that lets the organizer move the meeting in one click (Workspace Updates, January 2026).

Scheduling from any Workspace app. Since September 2026, Gemini can find open times, book meetings and resolve conflicts from other Workspace apps, with a preview card to confirm before anything is saved. It is English only, and Google lists it for AI Ultra and Business or Enterprise plans, not consumer Google AI Pro (Workspace Updates, September 2026).

Gmail on your phone. Gemini in the Gmail mobile app can create, edit or delete calendar events (Workspace Updates, May 2025), and an "Add to calendar" button appears on emails that mention an event, for English emails (Workspace Updates, August 2025).

Which account gets what

This is the part Google's announcements make hardest to see, so here it is in one table. Always check the linked post for your exact plan, because Google adjusts eligibility often.

Feature Personal Google account Google AI Pro / Ultra Workspace business plans
Gemini app: create, edit, cancel events Yes Yes Yes, if your admin allows it
Help me schedule in Gmail No Yes Business Standard, Plus, Enterprise
Suggested times in Calendar No Not announced Yes
Schedule from any Workspace app (Sep 2026) No Ultra only Business and Enterprise
Scheduled actions (morning brief) No Yes Qualifying plans

In short: the free Gemini app handles personal calendar edits, and the meeting coordination features are aimed at people who schedule with colleagues all day.

Scheduled actions: a morning brief, on request

Gemini can also run a prompt on a schedule. Google's own example is a daily morning summary of your calendar and unread email (Google blog, June 2025). It requires Google AI Pro or Ultra, or a qualifying Workspace plan.

This is the closest Gemini gets to speaking first. It is a recurring prompt you set up, not an assistant watching your day. It will not notice that your 3pm moved, that a flight is tomorrow evening, or that a friend's birthday is today unless your prompt asks for exactly that.

When Gemini Calendar is not working

Most "Gemini can't see my calendar" problems come down to a few settings. Work through these in order.

  • Keep Activity is off. Google's help page says Calendar actions in the Gemini app need Gemini Apps Activity (now called Keep Activity) turned on. Check it at the Gemini app's activity settings.
  • Google Workspace is not connected. In the Gemini app, open Apps (connected apps) and make sure Google Workspace, which includes Calendar, is enabled.
  • Wrong account. Gemini only sees the calendar of the account you are signed into in Gemini. If your calendar lives on a different Google account than your Gemini account, it will look empty.
  • Admin settings. On a work or school account, your administrator can turn Gemini or its Workspace access off entirely.
  • Language and region. Several Workspace features above are English only or launched in stages, so the button may simply not exist for you yet.
  • The request needs a guest. If you ask Gemini to invite someone, it will fail or skip that part. Create the event, then add guests in Calendar.

If everything is enabled and it still fails, try the same request in Gemini on the web. That separates an app problem from an account problem in about a minute.

What Gemini does not do

Gemini is a capable assistant once you ask. The gap is everything that happens before you ask.

  • It does not send you a reminder written for the specific event, like a heads-up the evening before a flight.
  • It does not tell you that a contact's birthday is today unless you built a scheduled prompt for it.
  • It does not watch the weather against your plans and warn you before rain.
  • It does not give you a quiet, fresh conversation each morning focused only on today.

None of that is a criticism of Gemini. It is a general assistant inside a large suite, and its calendar features are tuned for work scheduling. How Daychat helps

Daychat is a chat built only for your Google Calendar, on iPhone and iPad (and on Mac through the iPad app). You can ask it to create, move or cancel an event, or ask "am I free Thursday afternoon?", and it reads every calendar in your Google account, including shared ones. It always confirms what it did, and new events land on your primary calendar.

The difference from Gemini is that Daychat speaks first. Every morning you get a short daily summary notification at the time you choose, a fresh chat for the day, alerts timed to the kind of event (a flight gets a heads-up the evening before, a meeting 30 minutes before), and a birthday reminder on the day for people in your iPhone contacts. With Daychat+, you also get a rain or snow alert about an hour ahead and official weather warnings from Apple Weather. If that is the part Gemini leaves out for you, try Daychat on the App Store.

Frequently asked questions

Is Gemini in Google Calendar free?

The Gemini app's basic calendar actions (create, find, edit, cancel) work with a free personal Google account. Help me schedule, scheduling from other Workspace apps and scheduled actions require Google AI Pro, Ultra or an eligible Workspace plan, depending on the feature.

Can Gemini add guests to a Google Calendar event?

Not from the Gemini app as of 2026. You can create the event with Gemini, then open it in Google Calendar to invite people. Help me schedule in Gmail handles group meetings differently, because it starts from an email thread with the guests already in it.

Why does Gemini say it can't access my calendar?

Usually Keep Activity is off, the Google Workspace connection is disabled in Gemini's connected apps, or you are signed into Gemini with a different account than the one holding your calendar. On work accounts, an admin setting can block it.

Does Gemini work with Google Calendar on iPhone?

Yes, through the Gemini app, and Google has extended Calendar access to Gemini Live on iOS. Some features have reached Android first, so if one is missing on iPhone, try Gemini on the web.

Can Gemini send me a daily summary of my calendar?

Yes, if you set up a scheduled action on an eligible plan. It runs the prompt you wrote at the time you chose. It does not adapt its alerts to individual events during the day.
